Many CNAs advance by becoming LPNs or RNs while continuing to work. Some pursue specialized certifications in fields like dementia care or EKG tech. With experience, CNAs can become supervisors or instructors.

CNAs work in nursing homes, hospitals, assisted living facilities, home health agencies, hospice, and other healthcare settings. Experience in a specialty like geriatrics, pediatrics, or oncology can open up more job opportunities.

CNA certification and licensing requirements vary by state but generally involve completing an approved training program and passing a competency exam. Licenses must be renewed every 1-2 years.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual salary for CNAs in 2023 is around $32,000. The lowest 10% earn less than $25,000 and the highest 10% earn more than $50,000 per year.
